Now that a reality TV star is president of the United States, several other entertainers and media giants are considering running for the highest office in the land. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, rapper Kanye West, and action star Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson have all expressed interest. But there’s one other TV star/billionaire who might also be running—Oprah Winfrey.
Winfrey’s endorsement of Barack Obama helped him get an estimated 1 million votes in the 2008 election. She also endorsed Hillary Clinton, not that it helped as much.
But after seeing Donald Trump win the election, she started thinking of her own potential. “I never considered the question even a possibility,” she told David Rubenstein on his Bloomberg Television program. “I just thought, ‘Oh… oh?'”
“It’s clear you don’t need government experience to be elected president of the United States,” Rubenstein commented, referring to how unqualified Trump is to be president.
“That’s what I thought,” she continued. “I thought, ‘Oh, gee, I don’t have the experience, I don’t know enough.’ And now I’m thinking, ‘Oh.'”
Ultimately, she isn’t too interested, for now. “No, that won’t be happening. But – I mean I did used to think that you had to know so much more than I thought you have to know.”
It’s evident that the idea is there. Though she says it won’t happen, she is intrigued by it.
Maybe in 2020, we’ll see campaign posters for Winfrey/DeGeneres.
