Hurricane Harvey is still wreaking havoc on Texas, causing life-threatening flooding that will continue until Thursday. So far, President Trump has tweeted about the crisis about a dozen times, praising the efforts to save people and trying to encourage the community. But in all those tweets, the one thing he didn’t do was ask people to send donations to help with the rescue and recovery efforts.
But that doesn’t mean Trump wasn’t asking for donations today. In fact, he was raising money for another disaster destroying the country–his 2020 reelection fund:

Former President Obama only had two tweets on the crisis—except he posted a link to the Red Cross.
Thank you to all the first responders and people helping each other out. That’s what we do as Americans. Here’s one way you can help now. https://t.co/iGfE8rAoAu

Even Melania retweeted the Red Cross:
— American Red Cross (@RedCross) August 28, 2017
That’s all Trump had to do—post a link to the Red Cross. Instead, he asked people to give money to him. “We’re coming up on our FEC-mandated end-of-month deadline and the media will be waiting to see if the American people have walked away from our movement,” read the campaign email. “With your help, our numbers will show the world that the people are still fighting to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump cares more about how his donation numbers look than the number of people now homeless in east Texas.
Besides Red Cross, there is also Samaritan’s Purse, America Cares, and other places to send money to. If you plan to “Make America Great Again,” start by helping the people in Texas and skip the donation to the billionaire.
